The Power of Natural Healing & Trusting God with Your Health

Have you ever found yourself obsessing over your health—Googling symptoms, or feeling anxious when you or your kids get sick? As moms, we carry a deep responsibility for our children’s health, often even more than our own. And in a world filled with health trends, conflicting advice, and unexpected challenges, it’s easy to feel like we have to control everything. But what if true wellness isn’t about control, but about embracing natural healing and trusting God?

The truth is, no matter how much we plan, some things are simply out of our hands. But here’s the good news: we were never meant to carry the weight of it all. God, in His wisdom, created our bodies with an incredible ability to heal and restore. When we trust Him with our health journey while also stewarding what is in our control, we find a balance that leads to true peace, healing, and freedom from fear.

In this post, we’ll explore:

Why we often struggle to trust God with our health

The amazing way God designed the body to heal

What we can control versus what we must surrender

Practical ways to support our health while releasing anxiety and fear

If you’ve ever felt stuck between wanting to do everything “right” and trusting God with the unknowns, this post is for you. Here you’ll discover how to embrace faith, natural healing, and action in our wellness journey.

[ez-toc]

Why We Struggle to Trust God with Our Health

Trusting God with our health sounds simple, but in reality, it can feel incredibly difficult. We know in our hearts that He is in control, yet we often find ourselves over-researching, second-guessing, and trying to micromanage every little aspect of our well-being. The world bombards us with conflicting health advice, and when challenges arise, it’s tempting to rely on our own understanding rather than fully trusting in God’s wisdom. So why is it so hard to let go and trust Him completely?

1. Fear-Based Public Health Campaigns

We live in a culture where fear is one of the most powerful tools used to grab our attention. Public health campaigns, media outlets, and pharmaceutical companies often use fear to drive urgency—convincing us that we must take a certain drug, vaccine, or medical intervention to stay safe. While raising awareness about health risks can be helpful, fear-based messaging can also lead to anxiety and blind trust in man-made solutions that often aren’t the best option.

Instead of reacting out of fear, we can approach health with discernment and wisdom. Not every illness requires immediate pharmaceutical intervention. There are many natural healing practices and remedies that support and strengthen our bodies. Rather than making decisions based on fear, we can seek truth, do our research, and ultimately trust that God is the author of life and healing.

2. A Culture That Glorifies Self-Reliance

We live in a world that constantly tells us, “Take charge of your health! Be the CEO of your body! and Manifest your own healing!” While there’s value in taking responsibility, these messages can place all the pressure on us—as if it’s entirely up to us to make sure we never get sick or struggle.

But Scripture reminds us of a better way:

“Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways acknowledge Him, and He shall direct your paths.” – Proverbs 3:5-6

When we rely only on our own wisdom, we feel the weight of having to figure everything out. It’s exhausting! But when we trust in God and His wisdom, we find divine guidance that brings peace and confidence on our journey.

3. Blind Trust in Conventional Medicine

From a young age, we’re taught to trust doctors, nurses, and pharmaceutical companies as the ultimate authority on health. Conventional medicine, while beneficial and needed in emergencies, is largely influenced by pharmaceutical companies that profit from long-term treatment rather than true healing. Many well-intentioned healthcare professionals are often forced to follow protocols driven by industry agendas rather than what is truly best for individual health.

When we place blind trust in this system without seeking God’s wisdom, we risk relying more on man-made solutions than on the body’s God-given ability to heal naturally. True discernment comes from asking, Does this align with how God designed my body to function? and Am I seeking God’s guidance in my health choices?

3. The Exhaustion of Constantly Striving

Many of us have internalized the belief that if we just try harder—eat perfectly, exercise more, follow the right wellness plan—we can prevent every health issue and feel our best all the time. While healthy habits are important, striving for control out of fear leads to stress and anxiety.

But here’s the shift: Instead of approaching health from a place of worry and striving, we can approach it from a place of trust and wisdom. Stewardship means making informed and intentional choices while also resting in the truth that God is ultimately in control.

Understanding God’s Design and Natural Healing

God, in His infinite wisdom, created our bodies with an incredible ability to heal, restore, and adapt. From the way our immune system fights off illness to how our cells regenerate daily, His design is a testament to both His power and His love for us.

Yet, we’ve been conditioned to believe that healing only comes from external interventions—that without pharmaceutical drugs, surgeries, or ongoing medical treatments, our bodies will not heal. While conventional medicine has its place in emergencies and critical care, it’s not necessary for most illnesses and dis-ease.

Somewhere along the way, we stopped trusting that God has equipped us with everything we need to thrive. We have been taught to rely on quick fixes, prescriptions, and man-made solutions—often without addressing the root cause of illness. But the truth is, our bodies are not broken; they are designed to heal when given the right support.

1. The Body’s Natural Healing Ability

God created our bodies with intricate systems that work together to maintain health and repair damage, to name a few we have:

An Immune System which is the body’s natural defense mechanism against diseases.

Our Nervous System which regulates stress, rest, and recovery.

Our Digestive System which absorbs nutrients and removes toxins.

The Endocrine System which balances hormones for energy, mood, and overall well-being.

When we support these systems with proper nourishment, movement, rest, and stress management, we allow the body to function as God intended. Healing isn’t just about fixing something when it goes wrong—it’s about being proactive to minimize illnesses and optimize the body systems function.

2. Biblical Perspectives on Natural Healing

The Bible reminds us that God is our healer:

“Bless the Lord, O my soul, and forget not all His benefits—who forgives all your iniquities and heals all your diseases.” – Psalm 103:2-3

God absolutely can and does perform miraculous healings, but more often, He works through the natural processes He built into creation. Just as He provides food to nourish us, He also provides wisdom to care for not only our body, but our whole self so we can experience lasting, vibrant health.

3. Trusting God While Taking Responsibility

Many people struggle with the tension between trusting God for healing and taking action in their health. But these two things aren’t opposites—they work together.

Trusting God means releasing anxiety about the future and knowing He holds your health in His hands.

Taking responsibility means making choices that align with how He designed your body to function.

When we recognize that healing is both divine and practical, we can approach health with peace, wisdom, and faith instead of fear and dependence on man-made solutions.

What’s within Our Control vs. What’s in God’s Hands

One of the biggest struggles in our health journey is knowing, where our responsibility ends and where trust in God begins. While we are called to take care of our body, we are also called to surrender what we cannot control. Understanding this balance brings freedom from anxiety and allows us to focus on what truly matters

1. Natural Healing Practices within Our Control

God has given us wisdom, and resources to take care of our health. While we can’t prevent every illness or predict every outcome, we can make intentional choices that support the body He has created for us:

✅ Nourishing Our Body – Choosing whole, nutrient-dense foods and staying hydrated.
✅ Prioritizing Rest & Recovery – Getting enough sleep and allowing your body time to rest and heal.
✅ Moving Our Body – Engaging in physical activity that strengthens and energizes you.
✅ Managing Stress Wisely – Setting boundaries and incorporating daily habits like prayer, and mindfulness practices.
✅ Guarding Our Mind & Heart – Fix your thoughts on what is true, and honorable, and right, and lovely, and admirable.
✅ Seeking Wise Counsel – From trusted people who can help you consider the pros and cons of your decisions.

When we focus on these God-honoring actions, we are doing our part in caring for the temple He has given us.

2. What’s in God’s Hands

Despite our best efforts, some things are simply beyond our control. Trying to grasp at certainty in these areas often leads to frustration, and fear. Instead, we are invited to surrender them into God’s capable hands:

🙌 The Timing of Healing – Some healing is immediate, while other healing is a journey.
🙌 Unforeseen Illnesses & Conditions – No amount of effort can guarantee perfect health.
🙌 The Future – Worrying about “what if’s” robs us of present peace.
🙌 Ultimate Outcomes – Whether healing happens in this life or the next, we trust in His goodness.

3. Living in the Tension of Stewardship and Surrender

Balancing stewardship (what we can do) with surrender (trusting God) isn’t always easy, but it’s where true peace is found. Rather than trying to control every detail, we can confidently say:

“Lord, I will do my part, but I trust You with the rest.”

Letting go doesn’t mean giving up—it means walking in faith, knowing that the One who created you also sustains you.

Supporting the Body’s Natural Healing Ability

God designed our bodies with an incredible capacity to heal, restore, and maintain balance—but they need the right support to function optimally. When we align our daily habits with the way God created our bodies to work, we enhance our body’s ability to heal instead of working against it.

1. Nourishing the Body with What It Needs

The food we eat plays a powerful role in either supporting or disrupting the body’s natural healing processes. When we provide our bodies with the nutrients they need, we are partnering with and trusting God and His design and supporting our body to function as He intended.

Prioritize whole, nutrient-dense foods – God provided real, healing foods in nature, such as fresh fruits, vegetables, and animals as a source to nourish us with healthy fat & protein.

Stay hydrated – Water is essential for detoxification, digestion, and cellular repair. Aiming for half your body weight in ounces of water daily along with electrolytes will help to keep you properly hydrated.

Reduce inflammatory foods – Processed foods, sugar, and artificial additives can create chronic inflammation that slows the healing process.

Support gut health – The gut is often called the “second brain” because it impacts immunity, mood, and digestion. Incorporate fermented foods, fiber, and probiotics to keep it balanced.

2. Restoring Balance Through Rest & Recovery

Rest is not a luxury—it’s a biological necessity for healing. In Scripture, God modeled the importance of rest.

Prioritize quality sleep – Aim for 7-9 hours per night to allow the body to repair and detoxify.

Honor the Sabbath – Regular rest, not just sleep, is part of God’s design for renewal.

Manage stress effectively – Chronic stress floods the body with cortisol, weakening the immune system. Effective ways to promote peace and reduce stress include prayer, deep breathing, and time in nature.

3. Moving in Ways That Promote Natural Healing

Movement isn’t just about fitness—it stimulates circulation, reduces inflammation, and supports detoxification. The key is to find ways to move that bring joy and renewal rather than stress.

Gentle movement for healing – Walking, stretching, and rebounding support detox pathways.

Strength & stability exercises – Strength training improves bone density, muscle tone, and metabolism.

Outdoor activity for mind-body benefits – Sunlight and fresh air reduce stress, boost vitamin D, and enhance mood.

4. Detoxing from What Harms the Body

We are exposed to toxins daily—through food, products, and even our thoughts. Reducing these burdens allows the body to function optimally.

Swap out chemical-laden products – Choose natural alternatives for household and personal care products.

Limit exposure to processed foods and artificial ingredients – Your body wasn’t designed to process these.

Release toxic thoughts – Negative emotions like bitterness and worry create stress in the body. Choose gratitude, prayer, and forgiveness instead.

5. The Power of Gratitude & Trust in the Natural Healing Process

When we shift our mindset from fear and frustration to faith and gratitude, we create an environment where healing can flourish. Instead of focusing on what’s “wrong” with our health, we can thank God for what’s working and trust Him in the process.

“A cheerful heart is good medicine, but a crushed spirit dries up the bones.” – Proverbs 17:22

By choosing to nourish, rest, move, detox, and trust, we are taking aligned, God-honoring steps that work with His design for healing.

Practical Steps to Surrender Control While Taking Action

Trusting God with your health doesn’t mean sitting back and doing nothing—it means actively stewarding your body while surrendering the outcome to Him. Here’s how you can take faithful, intentional action while releasing the need for control.

1. Start with Prayer & Surrender Daily

Before making any health decisions, ask Him for wisdom, guidance, and peace as you take steps toward wellness.

Pray for discernment in health choices.

Release fears and anxieties to God.

Meditate on Scripture that reminds you of God’s care and sovereignty.

📖 Scripture to reflect on:

“Cast all your anxiety on Him because He cares for you.” – 1 Peter 5:7

2. Take Small, Consistent Steps

Instead of overwhelming yourself with drastic changes, focus on small, sustainable habits that align with God’s design for health. Think of one healthy thing you can start doing, and one unhealthy thing you will stop.

Here are some ideas to get you started:

Drink more water each day.

Swap one processed food for a whole food.

Set a bedtime routine for better sleep.

Incorporating 5-10 minutes of movement or stretching periodically throughout the day can be beneficial.

Each small step is an act of faithful stewardship, trusting that God will multiply your efforts over time.

3. Let Go of Perfection & Control

Perfectionism often stems from fear—fear of failure, fear of illness, or fear of not doing enough. But God never called us to perfection; He calls us to faithfulness.

Give yourself grace on tough days.

Recognize that healing is a journey, not an overnight fix.

Trust that even when you “mess up,” God is still in control.

🙌 Affirmation: “I am doing my part, and I trust God with the rest.”

4. Choose Faith Over Fear in Health Decisions

It’s easy to become paralyzed by fear-based health messages. Instead of making choices out of anxiety, make them out of faith and wisdom.

Tune out fear-driven information and seek trusted, holistic sources.

Avoid obsessing over health trends or chasing after quick fixes.

Make decisions prayerfully, not reactively.

📖 Scripture to reflect on:

“For God has not given us a spirit of fear, but of power, love, and a sound mind.” – 2 Timothy 1:7

5. Focus on What You Can Control & Release the Rest

At the end of the day, we are responsible for stewarding our health, but the results are in God’s hands. Focus on faithful action, not guaranteed outcomes.

✅ Your Role: Nourish, move, rest, manage stress, and trust God.
🙌 God’s Role: Healing, timing, and ultimate outcomes.

Surrendering doesn’t mean giving up—it means choosing peace over pressure, trust over worry, and faith over fear. When we do our part and trust God with the rest, we experience true freedom not only in our health journey but also in life.

Embracing Natural Healing Practices and God’s Perfect Design

Your health journey is about more than just what you do—it’s about who you trust. The world tells us to rely on conventional medicine, man-made medical solutions, and self-reliance while the media pushes fear-based messaging, but God invites us into something better: faith, wisdom, and divine healing.

When you surrender control and trust God with your health, you experience freedom, peace, and confidence. Instead of striving for perfection, you can focus on faithful stewardship, knowing that God designed your body with an incredible ability to heal when supported properly.

By nourishing your body, prioritizing rest, moving in ways that bring life and managing stress through faith, you align your habits with God’s natural healing design for wellness. At the same time, you release the burden of trying to control every outcome, trusting that He is in control and He is the ultimate Healer.

So, as you move forward, ask yourself:

👉 Am I making health choices from a place of trust or fear?
👉 Am I stewarding my body while surrendering the results to God?
👉 How can I take one faithful step today while releasing control over the outcome?

You don’t have to carry the weight of your health alone. Take action in the areas within your control and trust God with the rest—He is faithful to guide, sustain, and restore.

Toxins that can negatively affect the health of you and your family.

But fear not!

Eliminating toxins from your home is easier than it sounds and totally worth the effort. This post will help to give you a clear picture of how unsuspecting everyday products may be interfering with or undermining all of the hard work you put in to keeping yourself and your family healthy. It will also give you a list of simple changes that will help you minimize your exposure and create a healthier home environment

What are Environmental Chemical Toxins?

Environmental toxins are chemicals that can harm our health by disrupting our bodies biological systems.

When you hear the phrase “environmental toxins” you probably think of external issues like air pollution, oil spills, and factory discharges. And because we don’t have very much control over them, you likely shrug your shoulders and move on. While these are indeed toxins that can impact our health, they’re not the kinds of toxins I’ll be talking about.

In this post I’ll be talking about environmental chemical toxins that you do have some control over, ones that can come from everyday products in our home, like cleaning products, personal care items, food storage containers ect.

Detox Your Home of Chemical Toxins – Why it Matters

There are several different health issues that may result from exposure to the hidden chemical toxins in everyday products. They range from things that are just mildly annoying to more serious conditions…

Does your child have asthma or allergies? Have you developed adult allergies or chemical sensitivities?

Are you struggling to lose weight even though you have tried everything?

Do you get frequent headaches? Experience depression or anxiety?

Yup. These are all things that can be caused by exposure to environmental chemical toxins.

Chemicals toxins in our home have been linked to things like…

asthma

respiratory irritation & allergies

hormone disruption & imbalances

reproductive abnormalities & infertility

liver toxicity & damage

neurotoxicity & brain damage

learning disabilities & cognitive impairment

While it’s impossible to completely eliminate exposure (and it might drive you crazy to try!), a few simple steps will go a long way towards protecting you and your family.

As a mom, I’m sure now you can see why it’s important to minimize your exposure to toxins as much as possible.

So now you’re probably thinking… where do I even begin?

How to get toxins out of your home

It’s true… toxins can cause serious health effects when exposure is allowed to accumulate, but it is important to remember that the problems usually result from prolonged or excessive exposure; the occasional use of say a plastic cup is no cause for worry.

If you take one thing away from this post I hope it is this… small changes can make a significant difference in your health!

Replace the products that you use most often and start with those that seem to be the easiest for you. And then gradually make changes when you feel ready. I’ve been at this for years and there are still things I plan to change, but for multiple reasons just haven’t gotten around to doing it yet. Just do the best you can!

And know that every little bit counts!

What are the toxins in your home?

Right now, in the United States, there are around 84,000 chemicals in use in commerce, and around 1,000 more are being added each year. Some of these chemicals have benefited us. However, the vast majority have never been tested for safety by our government, or anyone else. And these are chemicals that are being put into the products that we’re using every. single. day. – with very little government oversight or regulation.

So when trying to minimize your exposure it is essential that you first become aware of the toxins that we know to be the biggest offenders.

Elderberry Elixir

Elderberries have been around and used for centuries for respiratory illnesses, and more. In addition, to supporting the immune system, they provide several other key benefits.

Homemade elderberry syrup has been my main go to remedy for immune support and cold/flu symptoms for over 11 years, it works! Last year I decided to give the Elderberry Elixir a try and I must say I’m glad I did.

Elderberry Elixir is a tincture (not syrup)… tinctures are concentrated herbal extracts made by soaking one or more plants in alcohol. Elderberries and other immune-supporting herbs are used for the elixir. It’s a potent cold and flu fighter.

It’s more convenient than having to make the syrup.

Shelf-stable for up to 2 years.

A dose is 1ml or less because it’s super concentrated, so the bottle goes a long way. (Because of that my family not only uses when we have symptoms, we take it daily as a preventative for extra immune support.)

One of the most cost effective products in my book.

Also comes in a kid’s version that is alcohol-free without added sugar or sweeteners.

No need for refrigeration.

It’s one product you will always find in my cabinet!

It doesn’t make me itchy like other topical magnesium that I have tried. Actually I was pleasantly surprised that it helped some mosquito bites to stop inching after I applied it.

I apply it to my legs and feet and in addition to helping me get a more restful sleep, since using it I haven’t had any bouts of restless leg syndrome. Something I use to experience frequently.

One down side is that if you’re new to natural deodorants, there maybe a transition period where you notice your body odor. This is due to your body detoxing, in that case just use it more frequently, until you get beyond it.

Additionally if you want to speed up the transition time, then I suggest you try out the Detoxifying Pit Mask.

Are you new to natural living?

You may realize that living a natural lifestyle is becoming more popular as a way to improve overall health and well-being, but do you know all of the benefits that come with it?

In this post, we’ll explore the advantages of natural living from a holistic perspective and provide tips to help you live a more natural healthy lifestyle. One that empowers you to improve your mental and physical health naturally, without needing to rely on conventional medicine.

What is natural living?

In simple terms, natural living is when a person makes sustainable and non-toxic lifestyle choices that are better for your health and the environment. In other words, natural living aims to live in harmony with and as close to nature as possible.

It may sound hippie dippy, but natural living is more about getting back to basics of eating real whole foods, avoiding toxins and highly processed foods that don’t resemble anything in nature, with a focus on taking care of yourself and making the world a better place to live.

What does natural living mean?

Living naturally can mean different things, depending on who you ask. For some, the primary goal is to reduce their environmental impact as much as possible to preserve the earth, with an awareness that their actions also affect human health.

For me, the natural healthy mom coach, living naturally means more than just making sustainable and non-toxic product choices. It’s about building a life that is conscious of how our choices affect our well-being and the world around us.

Furthermore it’s about surrendering to our Creator, and trusting that He’s provided everything we need within all of His creation – including our body’s incredible, natural healing power. When we faithfully tend to the resources He’s granted us, we can calmly and confidently persevere on the journey to wellness and wholeness.

It’s an opportunity to experience the joy and the power of connection with God, as He intended.

Where does conventional medicine come into natural living?

There is certainly a place for conventional medicine and I think Chris Kresser sums it up nicely in his book, Unconventional Medicine:

“Our current medical model is based more on managing disease and suppressing symptoms than it is on preventing and reversing disease or promoting health.”

“Conventional medicine is structured to address trauma, acute infection, and end-of-life care, not keep people healthy.”

“It is incredibly effective in acute and trauma care…”

If I get into an accident or have some other emergency, I want to be taken to a hospital!

The problem is that modern medicine has created a pill popping society that has lost touch with what it truly means to be healthy. So much of conventional medicine revolves around suppressing symptoms which actually has contributed to the rise of chronic disease. The drugs that are sometimes prescribed for symptoms often have numerous uncomfortable side effects, which can include dependency, damage to our organs, and even death.

Why is natural living important?

There are a number of reasons why living naturally is important if you want to take back your power and transform your mental & physical health.

1) Your body is designed to heal itself!

In non-life threatening situations it doesn’t need drugs, surgery, or anything else that conventional medicine has to offer. Modern medicine can mask symptoms and make them harder to treat in the long run.

For example we have been conditioned into believing that all fevers are dangerous, when in reality it’s a natural defense mechanism that our bodies employ to fight disease. In other words, in most cases your body doesn’t need medication to reduce the fever. You can skip the Tylenol, using it is actually counterproductive or worse.

2) Conventional medicine can lead to more problems

Unnecessary intervention into a vastly complex system like the human body can lead to more problems down the road, such as increased resistance to medications and even antibiotic-resistant superbugs that are now killing thousands of people every year.

The human body is an incredibly complex system! It’s just better to let it do its thing and give it all the support you can.

3) Natural health looks at the whole person

Rather than focusing on one specific disease and just treating symptoms natural health looks at how the body works as a whole and seeks to discover the source of the problem.

4) Natural remedies work without side effects

There’s a reason why natural health is becoming increasingly more popular… Natural remedies can often be just as effective or even more effective than pharmaceuticals. Which means you don’t have to rely on conventional medicine!

5) Pharmaceutical drugs can be dangerous

A natural healthy lifestyle keeps your body free from excess drugs so that your body can function as God intended. It also means that you won’t have to worry about adverse drug reactions, which are now the 4th leading cause of death in the United States.

How to get started with natural living

If you’ve read this far I’m guessing you want to change your lifestyle, but you don’t know how. Or maybe you’re thinking, “I’ve tried to change my habits many times but failed… I don’t have the willpower to change.” Or perhaps you realize some of your habits may not be all that healthy, but you don’t want to change. “It’s only one drink with dinner. I need it to unwind.” Sound familiar?

Behavior change is hard. I understand. But I’m here to tell you, it’s possible if you follow these 6 simple steps:

1) Change your mind

To change your behavior, the first thing you need to change is your mind. Most people see themselves as changing when they stop doing something. Being able to stop unhealthy behaviors is important, however it first takes a mental change.

2) Set an intention

You’ve got to decide that YOU are going to take 100% responsibility for yourself and your health. This is a pretty big step, but the most important one. It will keep you going in one direction or another depending on where you set your focus. If your intention is positive and uplifting, then that’s where your focus and energy will go and the outcome will be to your benefit. If it’s negative and destructive, well… you can guess what happens.

3) Find your WHY

This is huge! You have to understand why this matters to you. Once you identify the reasons or “why” it will help you move forward with a sense of purpose and help give you a vision to strive toward that is bigger than yourself.

4) Find a support system

Without anyone to keep you accountable or cheer you on, change can feel impossible. You need someone who is willing to support you through this journey no matter what. Someone who may even give you tough love when you need it! Not someone who is going to enable your bad habits or sabotage your efforts.

5) Make a plan

If you went for a week without planning anything, how far do you think you would get? Probably not too far. Being spontaneous is fun sometimes… however, if you want to make lasting change then you need to plan for it. A good plan is one that focuses on setting small achievable goals and then building on them.

6) Stick to your plan

This is all there is too it. I know, it’s easier said then done! However, once you begin taking action on your plan, you’ll gain momentum as you move towards establishing healthy habits. Most importantly, celebrate your daily wins and it will begin to feel easier.

However, it is recognized for it’s importance internationally by scientific health organizations, like The National Institute of Health (NIH).

Europe and the United States have roughly a third of the population participating in some form of natural healthcare. For Australia, that number is even higher at 70% of the population joining in on natural health care modalities.

Unfortunately we live in a pill popping society because we’ve lost touch with what it truly means to be healthy. In this post you’ll get 15 tips for living naturally for better physical, mental and spiritual health.

My journey to living naturally healthy began with this quote:

“Your bodies ability to heal is greater than anyone has permitted you to believe.”

When I discovered that, I let go of the belief that I needed a pill for every ill. I realized that the pills were only suppressing symptoms and if you truly want to be healthy you need to figure out the root cause.

I started paying more attention to my body and how I was feeling. Slowly I began to recognize how my daily habits affect the way I feel. I discovered that if you want your body to perform and function at it’s greatest ability, then you need to give it more of what it needs and less of the things that interfere with its natural processes and weaken the immune system.

In my personal experience and in talking/working with moms I’ve realized that often our focus and attention goes into meeting the needs of our kids and everyone around us first. Because of that we struggle to fit our own needs into our daily routine. And that’s the problem. This leads to a cycle of stress, anxiety and a body that is prone to illness.

Living Naturally Tip #1: Eat proper nutrition

If you want to have better health with more energy and peace of mind then eat three balanced meals every day. Each should include powerful protein, healthy fat, and colorful carbs.

That means you need to figure out how you’re going to have time to fit breakfast into your already crazy mornings. Consider the impact on your mental health if you don’t eat breakfast. Maybe now’s a good time to try a smoothie recipe book or a freezer meal plan. You can do it!

Living Naturally Tip #2: Exercise Daily

As humans we are all designed to move! Movement is not only a requirement for life but also a requirement living naturally healthy. Think you don’t have time? Research shows that in as little as 15 minutes of daily exercise is enough to improve your heart, lungs, and brain. Additionally, it helps you manage stress and significantly boosts your feel-good hormones.

It doesn’t have to be strenuous, you can walk, do yoga or try some gentle stretching in the morning. While finding a gym with a supportive community is priceless, a gym membership isn’t necessary. There are plenty of free videos on YouTube for many fitness levels, and workouts ranging from 15 minutes to an hour to get you started.

Pick something you enjoy or try something new. Making it part of your daily routine is sure to jump start you into a healthier lifestyle. An added bonus is that regular exercise leads to better sleep and it makes it much easier to eat healthy food and drink more water.

Living Naturally Tip #3: Get Proper Sleep

Did you know that a lack of sleep can actually be bad for your brain? It’s true!

Getting enough sleep is critical for physical health, memory function, mood regulation and general happiness. Most adults need between seven and nine hours each night to maintain optimal health.

Frank Lipman MD. author of Better Sleep Better You writes, “If you are trying to solve a health related problem, but you are not addressing sleep, then you are swimming against the current.”

If you want to have more energy and be more productive through out your day, and if good health is important to you then prioritize getting a good night’s rest.

Living Naturally Tip #4: Drink More Water

A lot of people aren’t drinking enough water and it is affecting their mental and physical health.

It’s recommended we drink half our weight in ounces of water everyday. So, for example if you weigh 150lbs, you should be drinking about 75 oz. of water a day, which is about nine cups.

If you’re not a water drinker it might be time to switch things up. You can start by adding fresh lemons or limes, cucumber slices, mint leaves or even raspberries to your water bottles. Using a water bottle with time markers will make it easier to reach your daily goal.

Living Naturally Tip #5: Detox Your Body

Detoxifying your body is key to improving your overall health. I’m not talking about celebrity detoxes, or juice fasting. I’m talking about supporting your body’s natural detoxification process.

Our bodies are over burdened with chemical toxins due to our poor diets, environmental toxins and stress, so it’s likely that it needs a little extra help.

How to do it:

Eat fruits and vegetables that are rich in antioxidants, nutrients, and phytonutrients.

Eliminate or cut back on caffeine, alcohol, and processed foods.

Reduce the amount of added sugars in your diet (even artificial sweeteners can affect detoxification).

Drink at least 2-3 liters of water per day. Adding lemon and/or lime aids in the detoxification. Adding other fresh fruits to will add flavor without adding too many calories.

Daily exercise and deep breathing can also help to eliminate toxins.

Detox your home from hidden toxins by switching everyday products, such as shampoo, makeup, soap, laundry detergent to a non-toxic alternatives.

Support your body’s main detoxification pathway with liver supporting herbs

Living Naturally Tip #6: Reduce Chemicals in Your Home

Reducing chemicals in your home is not only good for the environment, it will help to minimize or eliminate the negative effect of toxins in your body.

There are tons of toxic chemicals leaching into our bodies from our homes and it’s important that we limit exposure as much as possible. If you’re like I was you may not realize that many of the things that you have in your home and use daily can negatively impact your health.

Many chemical toxins are found in everyday products like household cleaners, perfumes, scented candles and personal care products. The Environmental Working Group has a data base of products that are rated for safety, it’s a great place to look up things you are currently using as well as help you find better alternatives if needed.

Living Naturally Tip #7: Use Natural Remedies

Using natural remedies can help to improve your mental and physical health without the side effects that many often experience with pharmaceuticals. There’s a reason why natural health is becoming increasingly more popular… Natural remedies are often just as effective or even more effective than conventional medicine.

Living Naturally Tip #8: Spend Time with People You Care About

Humans are social creatures, so spending quality time with friends & family is crucial to living a healthy life.

When you feel connected to other people, it’s easier to handle stress. One study showed that when you have strong social support, even when faced with major life stressors, you’re better able to manage them and recover from them quicker.

Activities such as: walking or hiking together, meeting for coffee or sharing a meal are great ways to spend time with family and friends.

Living Naturally Tip #9: Set Clear Boundaries

It’s a misconception that a busy mom has a lot on her plate, often the reality is that she’s overcommitted.

Moms always focus so much on being loving and giving that they forget their own limits. This often leads to increased stress, which affects the body in many ways, including negative impact on your mental health.

You have within your control the power to set Boundaries and say no when you need to. Think about what types of interactions drain your energy and then establish a plan to reduce or remove them. You can learn how to say “no” in a way that honors you and your relationship.

Living Naturally Tip #10: Take Time for Self Reflection

Taking time for self reflection helps you become more self aware. When you are self aware, you are better able to understand who you are and what makes you happy.

It’s also a great way to improve your mental health because it allows you to acknowledge how your thoughts, feelings, attitudes or beliefs impact your daily life.

Awareness brings understanding and understanding brings change. Just 15 minutes a day can help you connect to your inner self.

Living Naturally Tip #11: Pay Attention to Your Thoughts/Words

One way to improve your health is by changing your inner dialogue. Your mind is powerful. In the book, Mind Over Medicine, Dr. Rankin shows how thoughts, feelings, and beliefs can alter the body’s physiology.

Negative thoughts and words can affect both mental and physical health in damaging ways. In contrast, positive thoughts and words have been shown to flip on the bodies self-healing processes.

So the next time you catch yourself thinking or saying something negative, take notice of it and see if you can reframe it into a positive statement.

Living Naturally Tip #12: Get Outside in Nature Daily

As little as 15 minutes outdoors in the sun each day can benefit your health in many ways. Sunlight and fresh air has been shown to improve your overall health and wellness.

Also spending time in nature enjoying God’s creation is good for the body, mind, and spirit. It’s a another way to feel connected to our Mighty Creator, God.

Living Naturally Tip #13: Write in a Gratitude Journal Daily

Focusing on what we’re grateful for in our lives helps us to create a more positive outlook, rather then obsess over what’s missing or could be better. Writing down things you’re grateful for each day helps make the mind more aware of positive things in your life and it can improve sleep quality and boost mood.

Life is full of stress. You can lessen that stress by doing what you were meant to do, not just checking tasks off your list.

God has a plan for your life and it’s important to know Him as the one who empowers you. If we have an understanding of what He wants from us, then there is no doubt in our minds that His purpose can accomplish anything at all!

Living Naturally Tip #15: Pray & Read Scripture Daily

A 15-year study showed that people who prayed or meditated daily had half the rate of heart disease, high blood pressure and depression than those who didn’t.

Our Mighty Creator God knows what we need even before we ask. There is no better medication or cure than surrendering daily to God and living life With Him. Let Him be your guide. Take time to pray and read Scripture daily.

If you want to be truly healthy, take care of yourself and treat your body right by giving it what it needs and minimize the toxins that create disease.

God gave us an amazing natural healing system when he created our bodies. It’s up to each one of us as individuals whether we choose to put in the effort needed for health and wellness or not.
